Meet Anjuli Mack, renowned WBFF Bikini Pro and a highly skilled fitness coach. We sat down with Anjuli to tap into her expertise and knowledge to gather some helpful pro tips to either elevate your fitness journey or make your next Power Play – the boldest yet.
Pro-tip 1 – cardio doesn’t have to be difficult
I love walking – it’s low impact and you don’t have to really ‘psych’ yourself up for it, you can just put on a good playlist or podcast and go. I aim for 8-10K steps depending on my goals.
Pro-tip 2 – train with specificity
I believe in doing what you enjoy whether that’s weight lifting, pilates, swimming, biking, a combination of all. But it is REALLY important to train with specificity – random workouts = random results.
Get a coach. I wish I had one from day 1 as I now know how important it is. I wasted years not knowing what I was doing and not seeing any results. It takes all the guesswork out of it.
Can you share an example of when you stepped out of your comfort zone?
Relating to my fitness journey I would say that competing in bikini fitness competitions was something that was way outside of my comfort zone. I used to feel so insecure and nervous to wear a bikini in public and now I’ve walked on stage 6 times including in the USA where I won my bikini fitness competition and turned Pro which is pretty cool.
Not to mention I walked in 5+inch heels which was also another aspect that was out of my comfort zone… literally.
Pro-tip 3 – training hard or hardly training?
What matters most is consistency long term. Something is better than nothing when it comes to movement. As women we MUST move our bodies – ideally some form weight training to help prevent bone loss (osteoporosis).
Pro-tip 4 – Recovery is essential
There is no point pushing yourself like crazy with training if you are not going to give your body what it needs to recover. Do your best to get 7-9 hours of sleep and minimum amount of protein for your personal requirements.
Pro-tip 5 – Nutrition for results
You do not need to eliminate whole food groups to achieve your goals! Carbs are not the enemy. Eating a balance of protein, fats & carbs is the best way to enjoy a variety of foods while getting results. I generally like to have 3 main meals and a couple of snacks in between – sometimes dessert fitted in depending on my goals. I like to track macros/calories which enables me to include foods I love while achieving my goals.
Best book recommendation for someone looking to start their fitness journey?
Achieving our goals comes down to the habits we create and the daily decisions we make. My number 1 book I recommend to all clients and that I have read multiple times as a refresher is Atomic Habits by James Clear, I think it’s a great book to help set you up for success in all areas of life when it comes to habit building.
